DHL Express is one of the international market leaders in the field of express delivery with over 50 years of successful experience. At the heart of the company's success is a global network of more than 120,000 employees in 220 countries and territories around the world, each of which strives to provide a world-class service.

In 1969, Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom, and Robert Lynn came up with an innovative airfreight service for urgent shipments from San Francisco to Honolulu and back. This was the start of the international express shipping industry and DHL.

The idea that changed the world and shortened distances was, like all genius, simple. The partners decided to reduce the time of customs declaration of goods by increasing the speed of delivery of documents required for customs. Thanks to express courier delivery, the papers arrived at the customs point even before the actual arrival of goods at the port of destination, speeding up the release of goods.

On September 20, 1969, Dalsey, Hillblom and Lynn registered their company, naming it by the first letters of their surnames. DHL's first customers were Seatrain Lines, APL and Matson Navigation. The banks immediately recognized the advantages of the DHL service: they used the company's services to ensure the speed and reliability of document transportation.

The innovative company rapidly expanded its service regions and entered the international market in 1972. Following the principle "to be where our customers need us", DHL opened its offices in China (1980) and the Soviet Union (1984) at the height of the Cold War.

By developing the skills to transport goods and documents around the world, as well as mastering the organization of complex supply chain management, the express delivery operator has developed rapidly. In 2002, the German corporation Deutsche Post became the main shareholder of DHL. Shortly thereafter, integration with the market leader in the transportation and forwarding of heavy cargo Danzas Air & Ocean took place, in 2005 the company merged with an expert in the field of contract logistics company Exel. This enables DHL to provide a full range of logistics services through its unparalleled network of more than 220 countries and territories around the world.

In 2007, DHL introduced a one-of-a-kind Innovation Center. It is here that high-tech, flexible and environmentally friendly logistics solutions are developed, as well as special products for the companys global customers.

The company was the first to offer customers the opportunity to do their part in protecting the environment by using purpose-built green services for shipping. Their goal is to reduce the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere and neutralize the impact of carbon dioxide produced by aircraft and cars during the transportation of documents and goods. In 2008, DHL became the first express delivery and logistics operator to publicly commit to reducing CO2 generation by 30% by 2020.

In 2008, DHL opened a new transport and sorting center at Leipzig/Halle airport (Germany). The center became one of the largest facilities of its kind in Europe and allowed the company to offer even shorter delivery times to the most remote areas of the world.

Today, DHL is an international leader in the field of logistics and express delivery, operating on a global scale. DHL offers clients advanced technologies and solutions in the field of international express delivery, national and international postal services, air, land and sea transportation, contract logistics and e-commerce. The DHL network covers more than 220 countries and territories of the world. More than 120,000 highly professional employees work at DHL, thanks to which the company provides high-quality and reliable service in accordance with the needs of customers within the framework of quality logistics solutions. DHL is a socially responsible company that supports climate protection programs, develops specialist training projects and provides assistance in the event of natural disasters and catastrophes.

In 2019, the DHL company celebrates a double anniversary: 50 years ago, DHL started its activities in the USA in the field of courier delivery from San Francisco to Honolulu, and 35 years ago, a joint venture was opened with a Soviet transport company in Moscow.

DHL has come a long way from a small organization to a recognized leader in express delivery and logistics. In many ways, we have become the founders of logistics as an industry and have been its pioneers throughout all these years.
